Chinatown in the Cold

On my hunt for killer camera gear in New York I decided to visit some familiar places. The first stop on my list was BK JAANI. That desi burger hybrid joint that went famous for its perfectly round burger, thick tomato slice, and green chutney. The food was good but the halal food scene has became so popular that it’s no longer worth the trip to these food spots. Maybe I am just older now and it’s not as appealing. Inflation isn’t doing any favors as the bill for two burgers, some fries, and lamb chops nearly crossed the one hundred dollar mark.

The famous BK Jaani burger pictured with a portrait 400 film simulation.

I tried to find some nice views of the Williamsburg bridge but poor planning and lack of parking left me in defeat. As I crossed back in Manhattan, my friend suggested, we stop in Chinatown to do some shopping. We found parking near Canal st. I can neither confirm nor deny what happened next. It may be that some individuals approached us offering to sell us watches, wallets, and purses different luxury brands. Those Chinese individuals then competed with other individual who were selling fake AirPods. “Follow me.”

The Chinese woman took us down Canal st showing us pictures of purses that were available and then made a phone call. Another person showed up out of nowhere with the goods. Whatever happened to good old fashioned tables? The rest of the shops also sold fake imitation watches and perfumes. Of course we didn’t buy any of them. I decided to try my hand at some street photography while we explored the neighborhood.

I use glimmer glass to diffuse the lights in my pictures to feed into that film look.

This is one of my favorite shots from the night.

Antique store that I wished I had time to explore fully.

This side street was hitting all the right notes. Some Japanese foreigners were posing on this street which I thought was amusing.

This is my second favorite shot of the night. Two people enjoying the night.

My journey through Chinatown ended around here. I was happy to see that some roads are still closed off to cars to make room for restaurant seating.
